Vermicelli Upma / Semiya Upma / Easy Upma ~ Breakfast Recipes

Very simple and quick breakfast recipe. U can make this delicious upma in just 10 minutes and u no need of any special side dishes/chutneys, simple ketchup suits well with this upma. The recipe as follows...
  1. Vermicelli        1 cup(roasted)
  2. Onion         1 no.(cut in length wise)
  3. Green chilies        3-4 no.s (slit open)
  4. Tomato            1/2 (chopped finely)
  5. Ginger          1 tsp(finely chopped)
  6. Curry leaves       few
  7. Coriander leaves      few chopped.
  8. Salt    as needed
To temper
  1. Mustard seeds   1/2 tsp
  2. Oil    3tsp 
  3. Channa dal   1tsp
  4. Cashew nut   4no.s(optional)

  • First roast vermicelli with few drops of oil and keep aside. 
  • Take a wide vessel ,add about 3 cups of water,few drops of oil and sprinkle some salt. 
  • Make it to boil,when it starts boiling add the roasted vermicelli. 

  • Stir well and cook for only 3 minutes , vermicelli should turn light transparent and soft.
  • After remove from the stove and drain the water using a strainer and allow to cool.
  • Heat oil in a sauce pan,add the tempering ingredients fry till light brown .
  •   Add onions, curry leaves,ginger and green chilies, fry them well. 
  • when onion turns transparent add chopped tomatoes and saute till tomato get soft and cover it with lid for few seconds .
  • Then add the cooked vermicelli and enough salt & stir well 
  • Mix all the items well and fry for a minutes and add some chopped coriander leaves. 
  • Now the tasty vermicelli upma was ready to serve with any chutneys or tomato ketchup.

U can also add some vegetables like carrots, peas, beans etc to make it more tasty and nutritious.
