She likes to try south Indian recipes and ask me for Dosa Batter, Sambar, Lemon Rice, Tamarind Rice recipes and I ask for her special Punjabi recipes. And this week, I got 3 recipes and I am going to try those recipes in coming week, so keep watching for yummy and healthy Punjabi traditional recipes.

Vella Sevai Recipe | Jaggery Idiyappam Recipe | Idiyappam With Jaggery Syrup

Vella Sevai Recipe
Vella Sevai | Sweetened Idiyappam With Jaggery & Coconut Recipe with step by step photos. Idiyappam and Thengai Paal is my most favorite Idiyappam combo recipe. But V do not like Idiyappam with sweetenend Coconut milk instead he loves it with Jaggery Syrup. So whenever I make Idiyappam, I make a thin jaggery syrup and peanut sesame powder for him. But this time for a change, I prepared a thick sauce and stirred with idiyappam and served. He liked it but said the sweetness was less. So I added more jaggery sauce for him and we three have it with mild sweet.
This Vella Sevai is delicious and equally healthy breakfast or after school snack for kids. My kids loved it a lot. Steamed foods are generally healthy and instead of rice flour, you can use Red rice flour or Ragi Flour or Wheat Flour or Millet Flour to make Idiyappam. Next time I am planning to try with wheat flour/Atta.

Thinai Paruppu Payasam / Thinai Payasam Recipe / Foxtail Millet Kheer Recipe

Thinai / Millet Payasam Recipe
After a month break I am happy to be back with a healthy and delicious Payasam/Kheer recipe using Thinai / Foxtail millet. Due to some personal commitments i am unable to look after my blog baby for long time. And now i decided to spare some time for my blog too.
I prepared this Thinai Paruppu Payasam for Varalakshmi Pooja. Thinai / Foxtail Millet is one of my recent favorite millet and i have been trying more recipes with it. Instead of plain Millet payasam i added few moongdal/yellow lentils for extra richness and taste to the kheer.

Modhagam / Thengai Ellu Poorna Kozhukattai / Sweet Kozhukattai

Today's recipe is Lord Ganesha's favorite sweet, Modhagam / Sweet Kozhukattai for final of Blogging Marathon under the theme, Vinayagar Chaturthi Special. My Grand pa used to say more stories about God(purana kathaigal), I remember the one about Lord Ganesha. In that story, He told about the birth n power of Lord Ganesha. Of that entire story, Ganesha's childhood part is my favorite, hope its favorite of many of us too rt?! I loved the recent movie about the childhood part, Bal Ganesh. In that movie also they have shown like Lord Ganesha love lots of Modhagam n he eats more n more and thus he got such fat body :) And that’s why we offer this Modhagam to Ganesha on Vinayagar Chaturthi, so that Lord will be more happy by our offering and Bless us with all our needs. These are all small beliefs n it does not necessary to offer something to God to get his blessings. Simply a whole hearted Prayer n strong belief makes our life peace & happy. May Lord Ganesha gives us all the happiness n peace.

Prune Pachadi / Sweet & Spicy Prune Chutney

Today's recipe is something sweet & spicy with Fresh Prune, Prune Pachadi. Last week H bought a big box of fresh prunes, it tasted similar to plum but few were raw n half ripe. So I wanted to experiment with those prunes, but not jam or juice something sweet n spicy which suits well with rice n rotis/dosa as a side dish. Then tried this pachadi, similar to my Raw Mango pachadi. Fresh Prunes are thoroughly washed, deseeded, chopped n boiled till mushy and then cooked with jaggery n chili powder. I did not do seasoning like the regular pachadi. The result was awesome n it tasted so delicious with mild spicy, i just love eating it as such :) But my kids were not attracted by the color n texture of it :( they liked only the fresh prunes. We both liked it n he said that the sweet n spicy reminds him of  Elantha Vadai(Indian jujube, pounded with red chili, jaggery, tamarind n salt). Ok Now to the recipe...

Hi Folks,Hope you all enjoyed your weekend n buddies Here in US still in the holiday mood rt?! due to Memorial day- holiday!! Actually we planned for a trip to enjoy this long weekend but from Friday i caught with cold n Flu suffered with severe body ache. So all our plan was dropped ok we planned again next month :) Today i am feeling much better.
For Day 6, under the theme Pick One Cook All with my star Ingredient, "Chickpeas/Channa" here comes a Sweet recipe, Poornam Boorelu with Chickpeas. Poornam Boorelu is a traditional Andhra Recipe which is done with channa dal and deep fried with urad dal batter. I replaced channa dal with chickpeas and instead of deep frying i used my Paniyaram Pan to fry them. I love anything with jaggery in any form. I just love this version a lot n my kids too. Urad dal n Jaggery n Chickpeas are well know for its nutrients n vitamins n iron contents so without spoiling its health factor i simply made this delicious sweet in Paniyaram Pan as low calorie guilt free sweet. Hope u too like it and do try this at home and enjoy! Now to the recipe...

Sakkarai Pongal / Sweet Pongal

Pongal, we usually celebrate it in my Mom's native place with Thatha, Paatti(grand dad n mom). And make plain Pongal and this sweet/sakkari pongal to offer God along with Sugar cane, Manjal(turmeric),coconut, banana etc.  Its celebrated as a four days festival and the memories behind the festival and of course all delicious food prepared on this day by my Paatti is more specail to me :)
