  3. Urad dal   1/4 tsp
  4. Curry leaves  few
  5. Hing  a pinch
Notes:
Use nice ripe tomatoes, I used 4 big vine tomatoes. If using Roma or Plum tomatoes add tamarind little extra to balance the taste.
This chutney has little sour taste and the peanuts gives mild nutty sweetness and cream taste to the chutney.
If you want you can also add 1 or 2 garlic pieces.
You can also use roasted peanuts, if so add in the last after tomatoes are cooked soft, add peanuts and stir fry once and allow to cool then grind.

Method
  • Heat oil in a pan, when its hot add channa dal, peanuts and fry for few seconds until the dal and peanuts turns light golden brown. Do not fry for long and burn them.
  • Then add dry red chillu, fry it and add roughly chopped tomatoes and stir fry for a minute then add tamarind piece give a nice stir.
  • And then close the pan with lid and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • After that open the lid, stir fry the tomatoes nicely and now the tomatoes must have cooked soft and mushy.
  • Switch off the stove, let the roasted dal, peanuts, tomatoes mix cool completely.
  • After cooling completely, add it to a blender, add salt and blend it to a smooth chutney.
  • If needed add little water to adjust the consistency.
  • That's it, transfer the ground chutney to a serving bowl add Tadka, mix well and enjoy it with some hot Hot Idlis or Dosa.
