Cheesy Garlic Rolls Recipe

After a long time I baked these Cheesy Garlic Rolls at home. Garlic Rolls from the scratch, yes prepared yeast based dough. At home we often bake Garlic breadsticks Veg Pizza, Stuffed Savory & Sweet Buns from the scratch. My Kids especially, the little one is much interested in baking bread and every time he gets excited to see the Risen dough in double the size and he enjoys punching the risen dough and used to say its so satisfying for him 😀😀  Yep., baking is a Therapy. 
This time for a change tried with Cheese Stuffing and who doesn't like some extra cheese on regular Rolls that too with Garlic & Italian herb seasoning. Cheesy Garlic Rolls turned out so so good and we relished it with some frozen Sweet Potato Fries for our weekend Brunch.

Cheesy Garlic Rolls Recipe
Prep Time : 10-15 Minutes | Resting Time : 60-90 Minutes
Bake Time : 15-18 Minutes | Makes : 12 small rolls

  1. Wheat Flour    1 cup
  2. All Purpose Flour    1 cup
  3. Rapid Rise Yeast   1 and 1/2 tsp
  4. Garlic Powder    1 tsp
  5. Sugar    2 tsp
  6. Salt    1 tsp
  7. Warm Water     3/4 cup 
  8. Oil    1 Tbsp + 1 tsp
  9. Mozzarella Cheese    1 cup for stuffing
For Garlic Herb Topping
  1. Butter   2 Tbsp + 1 -2 tsp for brushing after baking
  2. Olive Oil    1 Tbsp
  3. Garlic Powder    1 tsp
  4. Italian Seasoning   1 tsp
  5. Parmesan Cheese    1 tbsp
  6. Cilantro    few for garnishing
  7. Green Chilli 1 or 2 (finely chopped) optional

I used both All Purpose Flour & Whole Wheat Flour but you can use APF alone or Wheat flour alone to bake this garlic buns. I used Sharbati Atta/Wheat flour and the rolls were equally soft as that of APF rolls.
For Stuffing I used Mozzarella cheese, you can use Italian Cheese Blend, Cheddar Cheese.
We liked green chilli topping but it is completely optional. 
These Garlic rolls are taste best first day but still you can freeze them for later.
Serve these Cheese Garlic rolls/buns with warm Marinara Sauce.
I used Fleischmann's Rapid Rise Yeast/Instant Yeast, Instant yeast can be directly mixed to flour and no need to activate. If using active dry yeast, in a mixing bowl, add warm water, salt, sugar, yeast and mix well and leave it for 101-5 minutes or until you see the mix turned frothy. And proceed with adding flour and garlic powder, knead the dough.
To get nice golden brown top, brush the stuffed rolls with egg wash first and then apply Butter Garlic Herb Mix and bake.
Instead of Olive Oil you can also use Butter alone for the Garlic Topping. 

  • First prepare the dough.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add flours, salt, sugar, garlic powder, yeast mix well.
  • Now add 3/4 cup warm water and start kneading the dough. Once all the flour has combined well, add little by little water(2-3 tbsp at once) and combine everything to a dough mix.
  • Refer video for kneading method, add 1 tbsp oil and knead the dough for 6-8 minutes to a soft, smooth and pliable dough.
  • Once done, grease the bowl with tsp oil and place the kneaded dough, spread oil on top and cover the bowl with cling wrap or piece of towel and allow to rest for 60-90 minutes in a warm place.
  • After the dough has risen, punch down the down and knead for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 2 equal portions, and take one portion and roll it to 7" or 8" log and cut into 6 small portions/balls.
  • Do the same with other half of the dough and now you will have 12 small balls.
  • In a silicone mat, take one ball, flatten it to 2 inch wide disc and keep 1-2 tbsp of cheese and bring all the edges together to make a sealed round ball.
  • Roll it nicely to a smooth round ball and repeat the process to the remaining balls.
  • Now arrange the cheese stuffed rolls in a 9 inch baking pan(square or round) or 9 inch Cast Iron Skillet and let the stuffed rolls rest for 10-15 minutes.
  • Pre heat oven to 400 F.
  • After resting the dough for 10 minutes, the stuffed rolls must have risen to little bigger balls.
  • Now brush the rolls with Butter garlic herb Mix, sprinkle Parmesan cheese(I skipped), cilantro and finely chopped green chillies(optional) and bake in pre heated oven for 15-18 minutes.
  • Mine was done in 16 minutes. 
  • If need brush the Baked Cheesy Garlic Rolls With some butter and allow the rolls to cool down for while.
  • Serve Cheesy Garlic Rolls with Marinara Sauce.
