Bonda / Kadalai Maavu Bonda / Besan Flour fritters ~ Easy & Quick snack recipe.

Today's recipe, Bonda is one quick and easy to make snack using simple ingredients. If u have unexpected guests at home or if u run out of vegetables to make side dish for rice n rasam/curd rice then this bonda comes in hand to rescue u in such situation. You can make this snack in no time and impress ur guest with this yummy and tempting bondas. Or u can even make this for ur lunch along with rice and rasam makes ur meal so comfort and satisfying. I recently made this yummy bonda for our lunch with rice n Tomato Rasam.

You can even make this bonda for ur evening snacks and serve ur family with tea or coffee. This is so simple than Bajis and doesn't consume much oil like bajis. Yes., these bondas do not consume much oil as u can see them in pictures its dry n not soggy. Only thing is u should keep the batter consistency little thick not thin like pakora or baji batter. If u follow this then u will get perfect outer crispy n inner soft bondas.
Ingredients
  1. Besan flour/Gram flour/Kadalai maavu      1 cup
  2. Rice Flour      2 tbsp
  3. Wheat flour    2 tbsp
  4. Baking soda    1/4 tsp
  5. Chilli Powder    1/2 tsp or u can use 2 finely chopped green chilli
  6. Hing    1/4 tsp
  7. Cumin seeds    1/2 tsp
  8. Salt     to taste
  9. Onion      1 medium (finely chopped)
  10. Ginger     1 tsp(finely chopped)
  11. Cabbage    1/4 cup (finely chopped) optional
  12. Carrot     2 tbsp(shredded) optional
  13. Cilantro    3 tbsp(finely chopped)
  14. Oil   to deep fry

Method
  • In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients from "Gram flour to Cilantro" and sprinkle water little by little until u get vadai batter like consistency. (will try to upload step wise pics soon)
  • Now heat enough oil in a wok to deep fry, when it gets hot using spoon drop small amount of portion directly into the hot oil. drop as many as it can fir in the pain.
  • After 2 minutes turn other side or rotate and deep fry until it turns crisp and golden brown on all sides.
  • After that using slotted spatula remove from oil and transfer to a paper towel.
  • Do the repeat same procedure for remaining batter.
  • that's it...Yummy bonda ready. Serve hot !
Notes:
If u feel ur bonda little hard then sprinkle little more water to make ur batter/dough.
If u make ur batter little thin or watery by mistake, add couple of tbsp of gram flour and try it.
With the same recipe, you can also make Keerai bonda by adding 1 cup of finely chopped Spinach/amaranthus or any available greens.
Do not drop the bonda in burning hot oil, it will make ur bonda burnt on outside and uncooked inner side.
