Vermicelli Broccoli Biryani / Broccoli Vermicelli Biryani


       When i started blogging I use to post all my cooking recipes from breakfast to dinner with snacks...Simply Idly,Variety rice,Poriyals,Kuzhambu n evening snacks...So i posted all my regular usual cooking ideas...Now I Cook to Blog :) yes,cooking to Blog my recipes...so I want my recipes to be very interesting,healthy n Unique in one way or another.And also i should say thanks to the Bloggers who organize Events with wonderful themes, bcoz of the particular themes i got new n some innovative ideas...like my Bitter gourd fried rice, Mushroom spinach tomato rice, Potato Mushroom curry, Moongdal Palak Paratha, Mango Poha, Broccoli Chapathi Stir fry(Yet to Post). Now-a-days,as soon as i buy any veg my mind will started thinking about what new recipe i can try with this..funny rt??
       Lets move on to Vermicelli Broccoli Biryani,soon i saw the event Broccoli-Kids lunch box special, first thing came to my mind was to combine vermicelli with broccoli in any form.Since kids generally like vermicelli as it similar to noodles,My kids love it a lot..so i daringly tried Vermicelli n Broccoli in a Biryani form.In My home it was a great Hit...My lil' one for the first time he eat 3-4 Broccoli florets ..was so happy.My H who doesn't like vermicelli loved this broccoli biryani a lot.serve with Raitha.So hope your kids n family too like this yummy Broccoli Biryani...Try this n share your thoughts n suggestion with me...

Ingredients
  1. Vermicelli   1 and 1/2 cup
  2. Broccoli   1 medium(cut in to small florets)
  3. Ginger   2" piece (crushed)
  4. Garlic   2-3 flakes(crushed)
  5. Green chilli  3-4 no.s(slitted)
  6. Onion   1 medium(sliced)
  7. Tomato  1 no.(chopped)
  8. Mustard seeds   1/2 tsp
  9. Fennel seeds   1/2 tsp
  10. Chana dal   1 tbsp
  11. Clove   3 no.s
  12. Cardamom   2 no.s
  13. Cinnamon    1" stick 
  14. Turmeric powder   1/4 tsp
  15. Chilli powder   1/4 tsp
  16. Salt  to taste
  17. Oil   2 tbsp
  18. Cilantro   4-5 sprigs(finely chopped)
  19. Mint   2-3 sprigs
  20. Curry leaves    few
Method


  • Heat few drops of ghee/oil in a pan,roast the vermicelli light golden and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a non stick vessel,add mustard,fennel seeds and allow to sputter,then add clove,cinnamon,cardamom,bay leaf,chana dal n fry lightly.
  • Then add crushed garlic n ginger  fry lightly then add curry leaves,mint leaves,green chilli and sliced onion and saute till turn translucent .
  • Then add the tomatoes and saute till it turn soft and mushy.
  • After that add the broccoli florets ,chilli powder,turmeric powder and stir fry for 2-3 minutes.
  • then add enough salt n water,mix well add some finely chopped cilantro and allow the water to boil.
  • When it starts boiling add the roasted vermicelli,mix well and cook till done.
  • Thats it..Tasty Vermicelli Broccoli Biryani is ready.
  • Serve Hot or pack for lunch along with Cucumber Raitha.

    1. Generally for upma or khichdi, 1 cup vermicelli, 3/4 cup water is enough. In the above recipe, for 1 and 1//2 cup vermicelli use only 2 cup of water since the vegetables has moisture and is enough to cook vermicelli.
