Lobia Masala Recipe / InstantPot Lobia Masala Recipe / InstantPot Black eye Bean Curry

Lobia Masala Recipe
Today's recipe is an another easy, healthy & yummy side dish - Lobia Masala/Black Eye Bean Curry Recipe using Instant Pot. The same recipe can be prepared in regular Pressure cooker too. I added some potato cubes to the masala since my kids love potato-black eye beans combo. With or without potato the masala tastes amazing and makes a perfect side dish with Rotis/Naan or even with Jeera Rice.

*Black eye Beans cooks very fast and doesn't need overnight soaking time, just 45 minutes is more than      enough.
*If making this curry in the morning, you can soak it overnight.
*This curry gets thick upon cooling, so adjust consistency accordingly.
*Used 2.5 cups of water and it was perfect for us. If you feel the masala was thin just boil in high heat for    few minutes.
*If cooking this recipe in regular pressure cooker, cook for 2 whistles and wait for the pressure to cool down. Then open the cooker, add kasoori methi, butter and simmer for few more minutes.

  • Wash and soak dried Black eye Beans/Lobia beans for 45-60 minutes.
  • Mean while chop veggies and make ginger garlic paste and keep aside.
  • Now turn on Instant Pot Saute mode for 25 minutes, when its hot add oil and add jeera and let it splutter.
  • Then add slit green chilli, finely chopped onion and saute for few minutes until light golden brown.
  • After that add ginger garlic paste and stir fry for a minute.
  • Then add tomato and stir well and cook covered for 1-2 minutes or until it turns soft and mushy.
  • Once the onion-tomato masala cooked soft and mushy, add all dry powders and stir fry for a minute and add soaked lobia/black eye beans with 2 cup water, chopped potato and enough salt mix well.
  • Now cancel the saute mode, and turn on Pressure Cook Mode for 14 minutes and cook. Wait till the pressure cools down.
  • Once done open the lid, turn on saute mode for 5 minutes, add kasoori methi, butter and mix well and allow boil well.
  • Lastly, add some ginger juliennes, finely chopped cilantro, mix everything well and cancel saute mode.
  • That's it..Tasty & Healthy Lobia Masala Ready. Serve Hot as an accompaniment with Rotis/Naan/Jeera rice.
