Jeera Paruppu Podi / Jeeraga Podi For Rice / Cumin seeds Lentils Powder

Jeera Paruppu Podi Recipe is a simple flavorful podi variety for rice. Jeeraga Paruppu podi is one of my favorite podi for rice, very aromatic and healthy podi with the goodness of freshly roasted cumin, pepper n lentils. Its good to add cumin seeds/Jeera in our daily diet, Cumin seeds/Jeera helps in stimulating  energy and helps in recovering fatigue and low spirits. Jeera also used in treating flatulence, constipation, hemorrhoids. This is one common spice which we use in day today cooking has tons n tons of health benefits so this podi is one of the best way to add jeera in our daily diet. If you haven't tried this jeeraga podi plz give it a try, u will love it. Before going into the recipe, Wishing a very Happy Women's Day to all the amazing women. Though I have many come across many respectable & inspiring women in my life, my first inspiration is my Mom/Amma. Today, She is thousand n thousands miles apart, she is always in my mind & close to my heart. Have learnt everything from her, How to be n How not to be, Do's n Do not's, love, caring, priority, anger, patience, everything. One living example to me, she struggled a lot to brought up me n my sister. The one n only woman who care for me, Who laughs when I laugh, cry when I cry, living n holding her breath for us. The only thing She expect from me is daily 30 minutes phone or Skype call which will made her day. Missing her a lot n she too misses me n her Grand sons. Just a small thought on this special day :)
Now coming to the recipe,
Ingredients
  1. Cumin Seeds/Jeera     2 tbsp
  2. Tuvar dal/Thuvaram Paruppu      2 tbsp
  3. Roasted gram dal/Dalia/Pottu kadalai     1/2 cup + 2 tbsp
  4. Dry Red chilli           4 or 5 no.s
  5. Pepper corns      1/2 tsp or less
  6. Curry leaves     1-2 sprig
  7. Hing     1/4 tsp
  8. Salt     to taste
  9. Oil    1/2 tsp

Method
  • Heat oil in pan, add cumin seeds, pepper corns roast it for few seconds then add curry leaves, dry red chilli, stir it and add tuvar dal and dalia and roast in medium heat till the dal turns light golden brown and flavor comes.
  • Lastly add hing stir well and remove from the heat.
  • Transfer to a plate, allow to cool this for a while and grind it to a fine coarse powder along with salt.
  • That's it...Jeera Paruppu podi ready. Serve with Hot plain rice n ghee/sesame oil as needed.

Notes:
I usually grind chilies n curry leaves first then add dal n other ingredients, so that it get a evenly grind and smooth podi.
Dry roast all the ingredients in medium heat or else it will burn soon n won't be roasted properly.
Finely roasted dal only give nice taste n flavor to the Podi.
As soon as u finish roasting remove the pan from stove top n also transfer the content to a plate/paper or else due to the heat dal will turn black n burnt.
