Pavakkai Thokku Recipe | Bittergourd Tomato Curry Recipe | Karela Curry Recipe

Pavakkai Thokku Recipe
Pavakkai Thokku Recipe with Step by Step Photos. This pavakkai thokku is my Mom's favorite recipe. As my Mom was a diabetic patient with high glucose levels, she has to follow strict diet and her breakfast choice was mostly Godhumai Rava Upma Or Godhumai dosa.
I gave her a diet chart to enjoy diabetic recipes in a yummy and healthier way. But she prefers simple godhumai rava upma for breakfast, as upma are easy and quick to make. That too if, she has this thokku in hand, then her breakfast was mostly godhumai upma or godhumai dosa(another easy and simple recipe).

Pavakkai Chips / Bitter Gourd Chips

Today's recipe is simple & easy crispy snack, Bitter gourd Chips. This is one of the easy n best way to make kids eat bitter gourd or anyone who hate bitter gourd. The mild spicy & crispy Bitter gourd chips makes a perfect tea time snack. I have already posted the recipe for Bitter gourd Pakoda which is also a deep fried tea time snack. But compared to the pakodas this chips uses very little flours, spices and its as simple as fried onions and can be done in a jiffy n serve with your favorite hot or cold drink. We even love this bitter gourd chips as a side dish with rasam or sambar rice.

Pavakkai Puli Kuzhambu / Tangy Bitter Gourd Coconut Curry

Once in a week i make puli kuzhambu, kind of tangy curry using any vegetable with or without the addition of coconut. This Bitter Gourd Puli Kuzhambu is one healthy way to use bitter gourd and any one can enjoy this kuzhambu without complaining the bitterness of bitter gourd. Since the sliced bitter gourd cooked in tangy tamarind sauce and also the coconut addition mask its bitterness and gives u great taste that even your kids will like it if mixed with rice n topped with sesame oil.
No need to pre-cook or soak in salt water to remove bitterness, just few minutes of sauteing it with onions and the tamarind water does the magic. If u haven't tried bitter gourd this way plz give it a try its very easy puli kuzhambu without much spices n preparation process. Try it once n u will def accept my words :)
Finally today this recipe got chance to publish here, since it was sitting in my draft for more than 3 months, due to some reasons other recipes got the priority. Now off to the recipe...

Bitter gourd Tamarind Rasam / Pavakkai Puli Rasam

Day 7, final day of Blogging Marathon under the theme "Rasam" . I really had fun doing this BM with all my fellow bloggers and i would like to thank Valli for organizing such a group everymonth with different n interesting themes. I got to know more new friends through this BM and really this group was too friendly and helping. I enjoyed this rasam theme a lot n happy that i got so good comments for my recipes too. In the line, today's rasam is really a healthy and tangy Rasam with Bittergourd. We usually make puli rasam with only Tamarind and add more cumin-pepper-garlic. And i came to remember about my mom's Bittergourd/Pavakkai rasam. Being diabetic daily she use to have bittergourd in her diet. And sometimes she makes this bittergourd rasam by steaming the bittergourd pieces in idly plates and add it to the rasam. But i tweaked her recipe and made a very very good rasam less in bitterness n more tasty than her version :) Yes, this wan't much bitter i enjoyed sipping the hot rasam and had a filling lunch with Ridgegourd curry,Vazhakkai fry n this bittergourd rasam.
