Podi Idli Recipe / Beetroot Idli recipe/ Roasted Beets Idli with step by step photos. I wanted to share few Valentine Recipes with red or pink colored dishes. But at the same time I do not want to make any cakes or cookies or desserts. Because, I have already had so much of sweets/desserts in the name of blog during Diwali & Christmas. So I am staying away from sweets and no more sweets or desserts at least for some weeks. Then after a long thought, I decided to cook few savory dishes with beetroot.

Roasted Beets And Garlic Pasta / Roasted Beets Pasta / Pink Pasta
I made this roasted beet and garlic pasta / pink pasta for my friend Priya R of Cook like Priya as a virtual birthday treat to her. But because of my kiddo's health issue i could not share this post on time, so sorry Priya but hope you had a blasting celebration with your family and enjoyed gawking other delicious pink dishes made by our friends. This is a simple and healthy Pasta recipe and also a kid's friendly dish. The pinkish red colour pasta sure attracts kids particularly the gals would love this a lot. My boys too liked this pasta but asked me too many questions that why i prepared pink pasta for boys? Somehow i managed to answer their questions and happy that they liked the taste. we decided to share some pink recipe for her virtual birthday treat but I was not sure about the end colour of the pasta since i tried the dish with half mind so i did not take step wise pictures. After trying the ground roasted beet and garlic paste with pasta i got the right colour so took only the end process. If you like cheese feel free to add some grated Parmesan or Goat cheese or serve with a scoop of Ricotta as mentioned in the original recipe.

Beet Root Pulao / Beets Pulao With Fresh Beets Juice / Beet Root Coconut Milk Pulao
Today's recipe is an interesting and colourful One Pot meal using fresh beets juice and coconut milk. For a change along with coconut I extracted beet root juice and made this simple Pulao. It does not need more spices just a few simple ingredients and procedure. This pinkish red colour pulao is sure to attract anyone and the mellow coconut flavor gives unique taste to the dish. Beets Pasta Payasam / Beets Pasta Kheer
I always prepare Payasam/Kheer for all special occasions at home. As today also a special day as its viji;s birthday i prepared this Beets Pasta Payasam. This is my first try with beets and pasta combo, have tried pasta/macaroni payasam before but the combo turned out so good. My H who doesn't like Pasta in any way loved this creamy beets pasta kheer. I usually add ground nuts powder to my payasam but for a change i added ground almond & cashew paste. Over all a rich, creamy and delicious payasam. Beets Pasta Payasam / Beeta Pasta Kheer - My Guest Post To Viji !
Today's post I am happy to share a guest post to my friendly sis Viji of Virunthu Unna Vaanga. Long back i accepted to do a guest post for her but one or the other things kept me busy and was postponing. As today her Birthday and we friends usually make a virtual party post but i wanted to do the guest post which she asked me so that it will be on her space forever. My small b'day gift and hope she and her readers like it.
A few words about Viji's Virunthu & the wonderful person behind it. I came to know viji virtually only a year back. She is an enthusiastic blogger and friendly person. Its always pleasure chatting with her. She love sweets/desserts more than the savory food stuffs. That is also one of the reason for my today's post.
Virunthu Unna Vaanga has lots of traditional south Indian recipes, lovely bakes and many innovative recipes of her own. She puts more effort to share each and every recipe with detailed step wise pictures. I can see a vast difference in her recent pictures. She tries to take pics in day light and also i like the way she present each dishes.

Beets Potato Paneer Paratha / Aloo Beets Paneer Stuffed Paratha - Easy Kids Lunch Box Recipe.
Actually i started to make cutlets with beets and potatoes for Valentine special savory snack and i made cute pink colored heart shaped cutlets and also the cutlets come out so good and i even clicked around 40-50 pictures. But due to low lighting the pictures were too bad and turned out so dark n grainy ones. I wan't upset because its an expected one since it was around 4.00 pm when i set everything to click pics. So with that doubt I kept some stuffing in the fridge to make the cutlets again in the morning but next day i changed my mind and instead of cutlets made this yummy and filling Parathas along with some crumbled paneer. There's not much cooking involved in the stuffing-beets potato paneer preparation except boiling potatoes which also requires only 15 or less time, so u can make the filling within 20 minutes.

Beets Cauliflower Cutlets
Hope You guys had a wonderful weekend and wish u a great week ahead. Me too had a great weekend and i recovered from my illness and back to normal :) Have you ever missed your Wallet/Handbags/Mobile while shopping ?? Yep i missed all the three and luckily got it back every time. Yesterday we went to grocery store and while shopping i missed my Handbag and i didn't noticed it till we return to car.Almost 40 minutes over and i don't even remember where i lost it. I was so much tensed and nervous, my H consoled me and asked to check with Help Desk....When i asked that Lady in the counter, she questioned about my bag color etc. At last she gave my Bag and said " You must be very careful while shopping"!! Hooooo...I am so lucky to get my it back for the third time.Thank God !!! Do you have any similar experience?!, would like to hear from you. Ok now will move to today's recipe.. Beets Cauliflower Cutlets...Few days back i made this crispy and yummy cutlets with beets n cauliflower and this combo turned out so good and we liked it a lot. I got around 10 cutlets, i pan fried for me and remaining were deep fried for H and kids. Both were delicious. The recipe as follows..

Beet Root Usili With Mung Bean/Green Gram Dal
Generally for usili, we use combo of tuvar dal and chana dal or tuvar dal alone. For a change i tried with Mung bean/Green gram dal. I love this usili with rasam sadham. I made Thattai Payir Rasam and beet root usili for lunch and that was so healthy n filling . I saved some 5 steamed mung bean dumplings which i made for Mor Kuzhambu and tried this yummy n healthy beets usili. Now to the recipe,

Garlic Roasted Beets
I have roasted Red potatoes,Cauliflower,Bitter gourd,Broccoli in oven with garlic and other spices.This time for a change i tried Roasting Beetroots in oven.The outcome was so good and it tasted more crisp n yummy.Once can enjoy this as a snack or as a side dish.I tried with only one beets as this is my first experiment with beets.So simple n easy...

Beetroot Poriyal
Ingredients
- Beetroot 1/4 kg
- Onion 1 no.(finely chopped)
- Curry leaves few
- Shredded coconut 2 tsp or more.
- Chana dal 2 tbsp
- Chilli powder 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder small pinch
- Salt as needed
- Oil 2-3 tsp
Method
- Peel the skin and chop the beetroot finely and keep aside.
- Heat oil in an available vessel,add mustard seeds allow to splutter.
- Then add chana dal and fry till golden brown, and add onions and curry leaves.
- Slightly saute onions for a minute and add the chopped beetroot and stir well.
- Keep frying the onions and beetroot nicely.(for about 3 minutes)
- Then add chilli powder,turmeric powder and enough salt.
- Stir well and again fry for 2 minutes and add water about 1/2 cup or the beetroot should be 80% immersed in water.
- Stir well and cook covered. till the water drains completely.
- Once the water drained add shredded coocnut and fry well.
- Remove from the stove and transfer to a bowl and add some chopped coriander leaves on the top.
- Now the Beetroot poriyal is ready to serve.
- This poriyal suits well with curd rice,lemon rice,rasam sadham,sambar sadham and other variety rices.
Note:
If u use red chilli or green chilli,it will be hard to notice with the beetroots and have a chance to bite the chillies .So its gud with the chilli powder.
