Garlic Chutney / Poondu Chutney

This is my grandma's recipe which uses raw Garlic, typical village style spicy garlic flavored chutney. Its so simple recipe and a must try recipe for garlic lovers. This chutney goes well with super soft idli and dosa or as even as a sandwich spread. Make this chutney little spicy for more taste.

Preparation Time : 5 minutes
Cooking Time : 15 minutes
Serves  3
Ingredients
  1. Garlic   2 pods (peeled and roughly chopped)
  2. Dry red chillies   4-5(to your taste)
  3. Tamarind    2" piece
  4. Tomato   1 small(optional)
  5. Salt   to taste
To temper
  1. Sesame Oil   4 tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds   1/2 tsp
  3. Chana +urad dal   1 tsp
  4. Curry leaves   few
Method

  • Grind garlic, dry red chillies and tamarind ,enough salt to a smooth paste.(if you want soak the chillies and tamarind in 1/4 cup water and grind it).
  • Heat oil in a wok,add all the tempering ingredients and fry lightly then pour the chutney to it.
  • Cook in low medium flame, cook covered for few minutes and open the lid and cook completely till the raw smell of the garlic leaves.
  • Serve this chutney as a accompaniment for idly/dosa or curd rice.
Instead of red chillies you can also add 1 tsp of chilli powder .
