Thakkali Adai/Tomato Dal Dosa


For a change i tried our regular Adai with the addition of tomatoes. It come out well, so cripsy and tasty adai. Do give it a try, am sure u will love it.

Ingredients
  1. Rice         1 cup(i used sona masoori)
  2. Long rain/Basmati rice   1/2 cup
  3. Chana dal        1/2 cup +1 tbsp
  4. Tuvar Dal     1/2 cup
  5. Moongdal        3 tbsp
  6. Urad Dal      1tbsp
  7. Fenugreek seeds/Methi seeds    1/4 tsp
  8. Dry red chillies      5-6 (adjust to your taste)
  9. Tomato    3-4 no. large (chopped)
  10. Garlic    1 no.
  11. Cumin seeds   1 and 1/2 tsp
  12. Fennel seeds   2 tsp
  13. Hing    1/4 tsp
  14. Onion   1medium(finely chopped)
  15. Ginger    1 tbsp(finely chopped)
  16. Cilantro   2-3 tbsp(finely chopped)
  17. Salt   to taste
  18. Oil   as needed to toast thakkali adai
Method
  • Wash n soak all the ingredients together from "rice to Dry red chillies" atleast for 2 hours.
  • After that ,in a blender/grinder first run cumin n fennel seeds then soaked red chillies along with tomato and then add rice n dal grind to little coarse batter with little water.
  • The batter consistency should be little thicker than the regular dosa batter.
  • Transfer to a bowl add salt n hing powder mix well.
  • Then add finely chopped onion,ginger n cilantro mix everything well and the batter is ready to make yummy Thakkali Adai.
  • Heat a griddle/tawa, when its hot pour a ladle full of batter n spread in circular motion,make it little thick.
  • drizzle oil all around,cook in medium heat wait for 2 minutes then flip the adai/dosa cook till turns crisp n done.
  • Then transfer the adai to the serving plate n serve hot with any desired chutney. We enjoyed it with garlic podi and Mint Chutney(with red chili).

Note:
If you are planning to make this dosa for dinner, and grind it by evening then plz refrigerate until use for good taste n result.
Instead of sona masoori can use idly rice also.
This time i used both channa n tuvar dal, if u want u can use either channa dal or tuvar dal. but the combo makes dosa more crisp n healthy too.
If the tomatoes are less sour then add one more tomato.
