Caramel French Toast ~ Delicious English Breakfast !!

This Month's The Gourmet Seven edition ends with me. And the theme was English Breakfast and i chose the very popular French Toast. French Toast is nothing but a bread dish soaked with egg, milk n sugar and then toasted. This recipe is little different from the regular toasted French Toast, this is oven baked with Caramel sauce. The entire process was done ahead and kept in refrigerator for overnight and next day it baked. First time i tried this recipe and fallen in love, too delicious and a satisfying breakfast. My kids loved it to core. I got the recipe Here and for detailed step wise pictures click Here. In the original recipe, they used half n half cream but i replaced it with 2% milk  and i also i did not add cinnamon powder to my toast . If u r a sweet tooth person, this recipe is for you!!!

Actually i made Southern Biscuits(will post next) for today's post but Yesterday when i was reading Kaveri's post i thought that i was out of the theme, as Biscuits comes under American Breakfast recipes n not English breakfast. I dunno, something went wrong with me!....then again i decided to make French Toast and googled for some interesting recipes. There are lots n lots of French Toast recipes, but i lack one or the other ingredient for each recipe :( Then at last i got this recipe and by evening i wanted to start the process, but my bad luck i don't have bread at home...Again called my H and aksed him to buy some white Bakery Bread since he mostly buys whole grain honey bread. And late night started my work n in the morning totally forgot about it. And also today kids are @ home, so i am so tired running behind them n shouting at them- don't do this ! don't fight! Sanjay! Akshay!!!! By 10.30 only i came to remember that today is my turn n i don't make anything till now. Then went n baked it...with kids really i found hard to take pics n also still my knee hurting....so clicked without intention n no planning :( So sorry gourmets hope this will not happen again. Okk no more stories...will move to the recipe...

Ingredients
For French Toast
  1. White Bakery Bread   4 slices
  2. Egg        3 no.s
  3. Milk         1/2 cup
  4. Vanilla      1/4 tsp
  5. Salt            1/4 tsp
  6. slivered Almonds    2tbsp(optional n u can substitute with pecans)
For Caramel Sauce
  1. Brown sugar   1 cup
  2. Butter     1/4 cup
  3. Corn Syrup     1tbsp

Method
  • In a saucepan, add butter, brown sugar n corn sugar and bring it to boil. Stir constantly.
  • Then remove from the pan and keep aside.
  • Take 8 inc. square pan, grease with butter and pour the sauce n sprinkle almonds over it.
  • Then arrange the bread slices (as i used small rectanglar pan,i arranged 2 slices in a row and kept the other two slices over it, so that it gets abt 1" thick base)over the sauce.
  • Now take a small mixing bowl, add eggs, milk, vanilla beat well using fork or whisk and pour the egg mixture over the bread slices.
  • After that, cover the pan using cling wrap and refrigerate over night or atleast 6 hours.
  • Then remove the pan from refrigerator and bring it to room temperature.(Meanwhile the bread slices absorbed all the liquid n get sogged well).
  • Preheat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit.
  • Bake it uncovered for 15-20 minutes or until done(inserted knife should come out clean).
  • I allowed it to broil for 3 minutes and removed from the oven.
  • That's it...Delicious Caramel French Toast ready.
  • To Serve, flip a slice over to a plate so that the caramel is on top. Serve hot or Warm with butter or any fruit syrup.
Sending this to The Gourmet Seven. Hope you all have checked out the English Breakfast recipes done by our other Gourmets, if not hop on to Anamika, Anusha, Kaveri, Radhika, Veeena, Vardhini's Spaces for wonderful English Breakfast recipes.
